The internet is drowning in trading-risk advice. Most of it is wrong. Not wrong in theory \u2014 wrong in practice<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The three rules<\/h2>\n

Rule 1: Risk a fraction, not a feeling<\/h3>\n

Pick R: your maximum loss on any single trade as a percentage of equity. For most retail accounts, 0.3%\u20131%. If new, 0.3%. If 3+ years profitable, up to 1%. Beyond that, you are not trading, you are gambling with extra steps.<\/p>\n

Rule 2: The invalidation line comes first<\/h3>\n

Before you look at where you are going to buy<\/em>, decide where the trade is wrong<\/em>. Stop one tick beyond it, size at R \/ (entry \u2212 invalidation).<\/p>\n

Rule 3: One portfolio, one risk budget<\/h3>\n

If you are already short NQ and you take a long on QQQ because “it is different”, you are not diversifying \u2014 you are doubling.<\/p>\n

The two numbers<\/h2>\n

  • Max weekly drawdown W.<\/strong> 3%\u20136% of equity. At 0.8 \u00d7 W, cut R in half next week. At W, stop until Monday.<\/li>\n
  • Max concurrent positions.<\/strong> 3 soft cap, 5 hard cap. If you cannot explain each in a sentence, you have too many.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The one habit<\/h2>\n

    Every Sunday night, 20 minutes, plain text file. Four lines per losing trade: thesis, invalidation, deviation, rule-that-would-have-helped. No winners. No deep dives. Over 12 months you build a personal rulebook that beats any trading book you can buy.<\/p>\n

    The clever frameworks that kill accounts<\/h2>\n
      \n
    • Averaging down<\/strong> \u2014 turning a 2R loser into a 6R loser.<\/li>\n
    • Scaling into momentum<\/strong> \u2014 your R silently inflates by a factor of 3.<\/li>\n
    • Reverse martingale<\/strong> \u2014 biggest size deployed at most-euphoric mood.<\/li>\n
    • Hedging a loser with a correlated short<\/strong> \u2014 two trades to be wrong about.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      What the engine does<\/h2>\n
