Candlestick trading chart

Candlestick patterns have been around for 300 years. They work, sort of, in the hands of a disciplined trader. They do not work in the hands of someone who memorised 44 pattern names on a Saturday afternoon.

What the engine actually sees

When you drop a chart in front of OcuBit, the engine does not look for “a hammer” or “a bullish engulfing”. It looks at a tensor of about 40 features per candle. The question it answers is not “does this look like a hammer?” but “across every setup that looked statistically like this one in the last 11 years, what tended to happen next?”

What the engine misses

  • Context that is not in the data. Rumours, central-bank body language, geopolitical tape at 03:00 your time.
  • Discontinuities. New market structure, new regulation, new asset class — the engine has nothing to match against.
  • Your personal risk tolerance. That is not in the data, and never will be.

The five checks you should still own

  1. Is the asset liquid enough for your size?
  2. What is on the calendar in the next 60 minutes?
  3. Is this a trade I will be happy to close tomorrow if I cannot watch it?
  4. Does the invalidation level put me in a sensible risk bucket?
  5. Would I take this trade if the engine were silent?

The three candle moments that still matter

The failed break

Price breaks a well-defined level, closes back inside the prior range within one to three candles, then re-tests the opposite boundary. Catches trapped participants. A reversal with 1.6× the break-candle volume is a strong tell.

The quiet accumulation

Several small-bodied candles tucked under a resistance, each with volume above its 20-period median. Then one candle takes out resistance with a 1.4× volume spike.

The exhaustion gap

A trending move prints an outsized candle with huge body and thin wick, closing on an extreme. If the next candle fails to make a new extreme on comparable volume, probability flips.

Chart literacy is not a skill the model replaces — it is a skill it amplifies.
